What makes an item a perfect one?
I have been doing an uw run with a guy and we started discussing perfect items. He said that an item is not perfect unless its a req. 8 15^50 20/20 +30hp one. IMO it's all a matter of what someone needs in a specific situation. I am aware that req 13 items are not perfect but would you say that 15/-5 vampiric katana of fortitude +30hp is a perfect item? I just want your oppinions in this matter as i would like to know what most of the players think.
Cheers.

First off, Sundering is 100% inferior to Vampiric. While the misconception is rather common, a "Sundering" weapon is far from perfect.
I completely agree with your opinion. It all depends on what situation you are using the weapon in.

Ya...this kind of thread will go nuts.
For me: Perfect means reasonable requirements (7-12) and maxed mods that is usable to me.
20/20 15^50 +30 is simply the best mods for selling to the mass market, imo.
Not neccesarily usable for everyone.
I just got a req 12, 15 while enchanted, 5/1 vamp, +7 vs elemental Ironwing Flatbow. Its absolutely perfect for my needs.

Inscription Slot(s) (Elona based drop)
Anything else not perfect (mods) I can make a "perfect" by applying the perfect mods latter.
Skin, I do care.. but won't spend money on good skin vs common so the looks are purely optional for me.

Good topic; should be fun to read the answers.
To me, a perfect item is one I can grab from a collector, slap on a mod I need at the time; or.. an item that doesn't cost 100k + x ectos.
Blue, Purple, Gold, Green... doesn't matter as long as it works.
On a fun note; I've had one of the listed "perfect" weapons; only cause the letters were purple instead of gold it was considered merchant trash. lol

Hmm.. It's not that its perfect*, it's that it is, Most Wanted. A perfect Item could also be a really rare gold req. 7 Max 15^50 item.. Or a bow with req 12 with any ,mods. As long as they are perfect the item is perfect.
I really don't believe an item is perfect, because "one mans trash, is another mans treasure." req 7 req 8 req 9 req 10 req 11 req 12 req 13-- Any one of these, on a crystalline is very good, Does that make sense that a req 13 of one item is really good, but on this Fiery Dragon sword, is terrible? Not to me.
Just my 2 cents

a perfect weapon is whatever you like best for the situation. let it be a req 8 15^50 20/20 +30 storm bow for hunting charr or my personal fav, a req 13 14-21 13<50 fds with no other mods used to kill fow armor wamos in ra that want to 1v1. perfect it what you like best and perception is reality

I view perfect as having max stats (w/e your cup of tea maybe regarding sundering, vamp, health, armor etc) and req. 9. Equivalent to PvP-made weapons. There are some weapons that are marginally better (req 8), but they astronomically expensive and equally as rare.

Looks like that guy meant a 'technically' perfect item to me. That means that it's by specifications, perfect.
15^50 -> Perfect of ##^50
20/20 -> Perfect of 20/##
+30 -> Perfect of +##
Req 8 -> Perfect because it is the lowest of what's obtainable of a max (perfect) weapon and lower is generally better

I never understood the req 8 15^50 20/20 +30 policy. I trade, so I stick to it when trading, but I myself use req 8-13, with sometimes imperfect base mods (14^50 on my Storm Bow).
I don't see how that 1% can make enough difference for me to shell out 100 + 20 instead of the 10k I paid for it (gold req 8 14^50 Storm Bow).

A weapon is perfect if all the unchangeable things are perfect. Since nightfall that is gold, max damage and req8/9. I'd go as far to say the pre-nightfall weapons aren't perfect anymore, if I'm going to spend 100k+ on a weapon I want the flexibility of inscriptions.

Perfection is in the eye of the beholder.
This thread can turn messy but a perfect sword, for example, would be req. 7 +15% (no negative) because these are the intrinsic maximal inherent modifiers possible in Guild Wars (or were ). The prefix and suffix don't matter.
Just try telling someone that their req.8 15^50 Crystalline is imperfect though... its a very blurry line.

Technically perfect and perfect for the player aren't necessarily the same thing.
My ranger (Expert Sniper who finished Prophecies then moved onto Factions) started collecting bows, mostly feathered because I liked the look, a while back (only has one green). She has one of each elemental damage as well as poison -- and while none of them are statistically 'perfect', the foe surely did have a hard time telling! But the bow I like to use with her the absolute most is a 14-27 (req 8) with an unconditional +5 energy. Crazy awesome damage and energy to boot.
Btw, a dear friend gave my MM Ghial's staff (isn't that the MM one that's supposed to be "THE Best"?) While it was a sweet, sweet present, my MM actually does better with her bone spiral rod (+5 egy, 20% HCT, I think it is) and a collector bleached skull (+12 egy, 20 HCT/20 HCR Death). Go figure. Sounds pretty perfect to me!

imo a perfect weapon for me is somthing like this
Max Damage, Req 7-10
+15%-5 or +15%^50%
Zealous/Vamp
Armor+5
Sundering is only good for selling
+30 is pretty useless because most of the time a monster will hit for that amount or more so a +5 armor is better imo
Edit: i also like the +5 energy mods

Thx guys for the feadback, now i see i wasnt mistaking when i told him that he is making one. The guy i was discussing the matter with also told me that because he played for 200 hour more than i did, he would know these things better than me. Can u believe that?

That's another thing that is a common misconception: that +30 health is the most "godly" thing ever. +Health is a better mod to counter spikes in damage, but +5 armor helps more with pressure. My recommendation would be to bring them both, but if that's not within your budget for PvE take the +5 armor.
Another nice (commonly overlooked) mod is the Mastery one (20% chance of +1 to weapon's attribute), which in the long term deals out a good bit of extra damage on every fifth time you activate a skill.

None! Nothing in GW is perfect! I just hate those people spamming "perfect xxx" or "best xxx" in trade channel. They have no idea what is perfect and best.

As you already mentioned, Yarrick, a perfect item depends on what its user wants it to be. I have a 15%, 5/-2 vamp shadow bow of fortitude instead of a 15^50. I mostly use it in pvp, so I always have monks healing what little extra damage it does to me. This bow is perfect for my play style, but not for everyone's.
What your UW buddy was trying to say is that a 15^50, 20/20 +30 item is the easiest to sell and will yeild the most gold for you. As someone else mentioned, sundering is crap unless you put it on a scythe and get a critical hit, which is about the only time it does more damage than vampyric.
Since most of us can agree that a vampyric item with +30 health makes the best mods, what about the insignia? The best ones on my list, in order, are:
15% enchanted. In pvp, you will be enchanted 90% of the time, ensuring this mod does damage. In PvE, almost every profession combination can snugly fit an enchantment into its skill bar.
15%/-1 health degen. As stated before, the damage it does to you over time (3 per second) is easily healable if a monk is around. If you're in PvE, use mending.
15%/-10 armor while attacking. In PvE, this mod sucks, because warriors are the ones taking the damage. However in PvP, nobody attacks the warrior unless he's frenzying or too far from his monks, in which case the -10 armor won't matter. On a warrior 10 armor isn't that big. On a bowman, how many times will you get hit from up on that sniping cliff?
15^50. Monks like healing people. They make sure this mod stays active almost all the time.

That depends on your build.

This is a mod? I certainly don't see it.
Basically, you want to fit your weapon to the specific build you're using. For PvE, 15^50% is still arguably the best single mod simply because it works for everything, and no one wants to spend the gold on every single mod combo.
